智能障礙的英文名稱是什麼? Mental Retardation? 錯!
答案是Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities(IDD)!
這幾十年來主導美國(全球)特殊教育的組織AAMR(American Association of Mental Retardation)，在2007年正式改名為AAIDD(American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities)。
被問到新名稱的含義為何時? 主編者Steven J. Taylor說："The term intellectual and developmental disabilities is simply less stigmatizing than mental retardation, mental deficiency, feeble-mindedness, idiocy, imbecility, and other terminology we have cast aside over the years."
So, it is the new name of "mental retardation": Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
